Title: -agrams
Post by: lucky thirteen on March 14, 2010, 06:27:41 PM
I feel it necessary to point out here what exactly -agrams are. Many people on here seem to want help on the topic of pentagrams- what are they? Are they evil? What are they used for? I am calling them -agrams because there are different ones depending on how many points the star has. For example a seven pointed star is a septagram. Basically an -agram is a symbol that is used to call upon the power of spirits. This can be to assist you in a spell, to lend you power, or to protect you. The type of -agram you use determines which spirits you call upon. Pentagrams call upon the elemental spirits- earth, air, fire, water, and ether. Whereas sceptagrams call upon the main seven archangels. This is just a taster so i'm not going to go into loads of detail. Learning Magick is more rewarding when you research it yourself. I just hope this casts (no pun intended) some light on the subject.

While we're on the topic...let's also mention the use of the hexagram or hexagon  (six-sided) in magic...specifically in the Seal of Solomon which is heavily used in alchemy, ceremonial magic and Goetia.

Here's a brief link on the topic:  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seal_of_Solomon

Isn't that the star of david and the symbol used to identify jews in the second world war? etc etc

It is, and the Seal of Solomon was the original source of the symbol that later began to be associated with Judaism as a whole, just as the Pentagram is associated with Witches.

Nope, you're thinking of Samson.

Solomon was the King who built the first great temple in Jerusalem.  He was reputed to be very wise.  The most famous story about him is the one in which he determined which of two women was the mother of the baby by threatening to cut the baby in half.

I love that story xD. The only story I know about King Solomon. Anyway, Samson's story was tragic >.< . The song 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen made me read a summary of it. xD

Personally, I would think that a decagram would be the most powerful ...-agram >->

It's two pentagrams together, basically. That would speak the 'good' and 'bad' aspects of all five elements at the same time.

Put respective Gems or other elemental connotations at the points and you'd have one hell of a powerful design. What you could do with it, I haven't the foggiest. But hey.

Post by: Jellybean-Kun on July 28, 2010, 08:58:43 AM
Indeed. MAYBE YOU COULD LEVITATE A SOMETHING!
IF I had gems, I'd try it, but I don't...lets see how the decagram works...

A better representation would be this:

Here, you can clearly see how it is a star and an upside-down star. A 'good' pentagram and an 'evil' pentagram together. By putting the elements in the opposite slot on the black star in that image, you'd have a dichotomy of Fire, Air, Water, Earth, and Ether. Soo... yeah >_> Maybe...

Title: Re: -agrams
Post by: joegt123 on July 28, 2010, 09:50:20 AM
Okay, srsly... How in the hell would we go about testing the double pentagram? Could use 5 candles with light and dark colors. Or place them on black or white trays or something.

Could use the Gems, but that would require a deal of research. I don't even know what stones would be associated with spirit/ether.

Title: Re: -agrams
Post by: Jellybean-Kun on July 28, 2010, 09:59:47 AM
Find the stones that would have some sort of relation to the decagram. You need 10 of them :P

Title: Re: -agrams
Post by: joegt123 on July 28, 2010, 10:03:35 AM
Well I doubt decagrams have any precedence in magic.

What I mean is finding stones pertaining to all 5 elements. That would require research. You'd need 2 of each. And depending on the size of your circle, the stones could be very cheap or ridiculously expensive. (pebbles or fist sized geodes.)

This place around the corner called either all american or classic american (one is a fast food place a couple of towns over, one is a tiny, hole-in-the-wall diner around the corner. I can never keep them straight.) Ostrich burgers. It was oddly like a vegeburger and a turkey burger at the same time.
